The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is marking the 40th anniversary of the end of the ban on black men and boys holding the priesthood and on black women and girls entering Mormon temples.

The Utah-based faith will stage a celebration of that historic event Friday night at the LDS Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City.

The event is called “Be One” and will feature speeches by top Mormon leaders and performances by Gladys Knight, Alex Boye and others.
