The band and music teacher at a Utah junior high school has been arrested for investigation of sexual activity with a minor.
Jeffery Luke Zawalski, 36, who teaches at Evergreen Junior High, was booked into the Salt Lake County jail Saturday after he contacted a “15-year-old victim … via email on five separate occasions to meet for unlawful sexual activity,” according to a probable cause statement.
Salt Lake City police added that Zawalski “asked for and received at least 10 images of child pornography from the 15-year-old victim,” and that he “was in possession of more than 10 pornographic images of children” when he was arrested.
According to a statement from the Granite School District, Zawalski has been placed on leave. The district has “received no indication from SLCPD that Granite School District students were involved” in the reported crimes that are under investigation. “However, if any families have further information, we encourage them to contact the SLCPD immediately” at 801-799-3000.
Zawalski is being investigated for 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a vulnerable adult, five counts of unlawful sex activity with a minor, and one count of enticing a minor by internet or text.
