The Salt Lake City library marked its 120th birthday Wednesday with a ceremony at its main branch.

Mayor Jackie Biskupski issued a proclamation and librarian Cherie Willis sang an opera-worthy rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

Starting life on the top floor of the City and County Building on Feb. 14, 1898, with just under 12,000 volumes, the library system now has eight branches, more than 750,000 items, and technology resources that include 3D printers.
