Metallica was one of just six artists to sell more than 1 million concert tickets in 2017 — a feat accomplished in just 25 stadium shows. All total, that leg of their “WorldWired” tour wound up the fifth-highest-grossing tour of the year, with 1.5 million tickets sold and $153 million earned.

This run of arena shows will kick off Sept. 2 in Madison, Wis., and is set to wrap March 13, 2019, in Grand Rapids, Mich. The 34 dates are all in cities not visited by Metallica in 2017, and include some locales the band hasn’t visited in decades, such as Grand Forks, N.D. (nearly 30 years); Sioux Falls, S.D.; El Paso, Texas; Birmingham, Ala. (nearly 26 years); and State College, Penn. (20 years).

The concerts themselves will feature in-the-round production, and will include a “pre-show party” consisting of a DJ set and stand-up by comedian Jim Breuer.
